Our Story
It was in 1898 that François, the great-grandfather of Dominique and Georges, the current owners, arrived with his young son Nicanore to practice his craft as a wickerworker. Originally from northern Italy near Turin, they spent the winters working in the cellar of their home, repairing trunks, baskets, and chairs, and in the summer traveled through the countryside with their cart to repair wicker equipment used by farmers.
Bazar Picco: A Family Story and Passion Since 1905
Having settled in 1900 and seizing the opportunity to acquire a well-located shop between the markets of Monaco and Beausoleil, Bazar Picco opened its doors in October 1905. The product range was extensive and varied, with particularly well-stocked departments including porcelain, earthenware, glassware, pottery, brushware, wooden goods, aluminum, galvanized enamel, ropework, wickerwork, household care, toys, and perfumery. In 1912, Nicanore, the son of François the founder, took over the business. He had five children, who were raised in the family shop, as at that time the store was open seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., 365 days a year.
Meals were taken on-site to ensure they were always available to serve customers—an ethos passed down through the generations, fostering an innate sense of hard work, commerce, and customer service. Carole, Dominique’s daughter, will represent the fifth generation. With pride and professionalism, they all continue to serve the Sovereign Household, their customers, and the Principality.
