Our Story

It was in 1898 that François, the great-grandfather of Dominique and Georges, the current owners, arrived with his young son Nicanore to practice his craft as a wickerworker. Originally from northern Italy near Turin, they spent the winters working in the cellar of their home, repairing trunks, baskets, and chairs, and in the summer traveled through the countryside with their cart to repair wicker equipment used by farmers.

Bazar Picco: A Family Story and Passion Since 1905

Having settled in 1900 and seizing the opportunity to acquire a well-located shop between the markets of Monaco and Beausoleil, Bazar Picco opened its doors in October 1905. The product range was extensive and varied, with particularly well-stocked departments including porcelain, earthenware, glassware, pottery, brushware, wooden goods, aluminum, galvanized enamel, ropework, wickerwork, household care, toys, and perfumery. In 1912, Nicanore, the son of François the founder, took over the business. He had five children, who were raised in the family shop, as at that time the store was open seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., 365 days a year.

Meals were taken on-site to ensure they were always available to serve customers—an ethos passed down through the generations, fostering an innate sense of hard work, commerce, and customer service. Carole, Dominique’s daughter, will represent the fifth generation. With pride and professionalism, they all continue to serve the Sovereign Household, their customers, and the Principality.

A New Century of Commitment in Service of the Principality

After celebrating its centenary in 2005, a new challenge begins for this legendary store and for this passionate Monegasque family, loyal and dedicated to the Princely Family and the Principality.
Marcel and Laurent took over from their father Nicanore in 1946. Under their leadership, Bazar Picco entered a new phase of growth. From 1960 onwards, they introduced a free delivery service, strengthened the sales team, and expanded the customer base to include public institutions, hotels, restaurants, and property managers. Marcel and Laurent significantly increased the business volume. Today, Dominique and Georges represent the fourth generation of the Picco family. Carole, Dominique’s daughter, has joined the family business to represent the fifth generation and continue this remarkable story.
Together, supported by six employees, they continue to develop the oldest and most renowned business in the Principality. The longevity of this family-run store is built on their daily commitment, their personalized relationship with customers, the quality of their advice, their dedication, and their ability to anticipate needs. They dynamically manage the 145 m² of Bazar Picco, only the visible part of the iceberg, as they also rely on more than 500 m² of storage space. They source trendy ideas from various trade fairs and exhibitions across European capitals.
